Authority that

doesn’t trample

Reflections on power, responsibility, and the

development of those you lead.

In work and service-learning especially, authority should never be just about getting the job done. Every schedule, correction, evaluation, and assignment is also a small act of formation. Used well, these programs can develop skills, character, and a sense of vocation; used poorly, they can quietly teach that people are expendable, voiceless, or only as valuable as their output.

Many systems succeed at driving compliance and fail at forming character. Trampled Under Boot is a place to think carefully about how authority is exercised—especially in classrooms, workplaces, homes, and churches—so that what is precious is preserved even as what is harmful is addressed.
